There are a lot of details to this piece. I knew this room before I drew it; my mind had wandered recklessly to one of those dark spaces full of candy-colored death and lovingly displayed murder trophies.
At first glance, do you think cute, sweet, sexy, maybe girly? Her pink jellyfish wallpaper and royal blue hair are red herrings, and when you start to notice her slick black tentacles, your eyes pull across the scale upholstered settee and up to her neatly hung harpoon. The magazine she holds depicts the cruel adventure of whaling, which she reads with lazy detachment. Her walls are carefully adorned with obsessions, tools, bones, and corpses, as any hunters would be. But she is more than just a hunter, she is a fearsome predator with a deceiving face.
The Great Witch of the Sea - she is the fearsome predator of the deep. Men beware and don't come near, for she'll poison you and steal your spear, and claim you for her trophy wall to keep.
